HBO film on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat addiction

February 2008

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is considered the most effective treatment for stimulant addiction, which include methamphetamine and cocaine. It is also proven effective for alcohol and other addictions.

There are no medications that are proven effective for stimulant addiction. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is effective, and can be used together with recovery skills groups, individual and family counseling, drug testing and 12-step or other mutual support groups.
