Please join us on the Monday after Mother’s Day, at the elegant Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. as we celebrate these inspiring honorees.

Wendy Walsh will be our Emcee. Wendy has become a champion for working women ever since her standing up to Bill O’Reilly led to his departure from Fox News.
Help us honor these amazing 2017 Foremothers
for a lifetime of breaking down barriers and making our lives better:

Maureen Bunyan was one of the first African American women in the nation to anchor an evening newscast. She spent more than 40 years anchoring local news in Washington, D.C. and is widely respected as a passionate advocate for women and minorities in journalism. She is a founder of The International Women’s Media Foundation and the National Association of Black Journalists. She has received 7 local Emmys and been knighted by the King of the Netherlands.

Melanne Verveer is the founding Director of Georgetown’s Institute for Women, Peace, and Security. During the Obama Administration, she served as the first U.S. Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues, and had previously served as Chief of Staff to First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. In 1997, she and the former First Lady co-founded Vital Voices Global Partnership, an organization created to empower women’s leadership around the world.

Our two Health Policy Heroes are Sarah Jane Tribble and Sydney Lupkin of Kaiser Health News for their ongoing investigative series on the unintended consequences of federal policies on orphan drugs. Intended to improve treatments for patients with rare diseases, these policies have resulted in questionable treatments costing up to $750,000 per year, threatening the entire U.S. healthcare system. Their investigation is attracting urgent Congressional attention and has enormous implications for all Americans.
