Are sentinel lymph node biopsies for DCIS (stage zero breast cancer) or very tiny Stage 1 breast cancer a good way to “be cautious” to prevent breast cancer in the future, or is it overtreatment? The biopsies add to the pain and the cost of surgery, and they almost never find cancer in the lymph nodes, so the evidence shows they don’t reduce the chances of developing new cancer in the next 5 years.
